2003 TOPOFF Exercises
The federal government conducts major exercises every two years to evaluate the preparedness of the local, state, federal and international response agencies to a hypothetical terrorist attack. The TOPOFF 2 (Top Officials) full-scale exercise was conducted for five days beginning on May 12, 2003 in the metropolitan areas surrounding Chicago and Seattle, with cooperation and participation from the Government of Canada, including the Province of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver.
“Protection against terrorism requires that organizations at every level of government and in the private sector work together in partnership to prepare for events and deal with their consequences,” said U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge. “TOPOFF 2 provides the opportunity to test our preparedness, and at the same time identify ways to improve response in the future.”
Having developed the PEAC-CW product that included the chemical warfare agents and their precursors under a previous contract to TSWG (Technical Support Working Group), AristaTek supplied the PEAC-WMD software with PDAs to both the Seattle and Chicago fire departments and bomb squads to support these exercises.
